Twitch’s New Clip Creation Flow
Twitch is rolling out a new Clip creation flow to a small percentage of users before launching it to everyone later this summer. This update is packed with features that will make creating and managing clips easier than ever.
Automatic Vertical Clips
One of the most notable features is automatic vertical clips. When viewers create clips, Twitch will now automatically generate vertical clips for the streamer. These portrait clips will be based on your previous portrait crops, making it easier to share on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Vertical clips will be particularly important as they will be the default orientation shown in the clips feed on Twitch’s redesigned mobile app, announced at TwitchCon Rotterdam.
Portrait clips will automatically be shown on mobile surfaces like our new mobile feed and later on the mobile channel page. Landscape clips will continue to be the default on desktop.

Clip Editing Update
The new Clip Editing update allows viewers to return to clips they previously created, generate a vertical version, rename the clip, and edit the start/end trim points. Viewers can adjust the portrait crop, re-trim, and rename clips until the streamer edits, features, exports, or shares a link to the clip. Once any of these actions are taken, the viewer loses access to further edit the clip.
To ensure clips are intentional, viewers must now click “Publish” and add a title for the clip to save and publish. According to Twitch’s data, 76% of clips are created unintentionally. This update will help remove accidental clips, making it easier for you to find quality clips to share.
Enhanced Viewer Interaction in Redesigned Mobile App
Viewers will be able to swipe through clips similar to TikTok and will have the option to visit your livestream directly if you are currently broadcasting.
To give viewers a way to support the streamers they love, viewers will also be able to directly export Clips to third-party social sites later this year. As always, you get to control who can create and share Clips from your stream.
Recommendations for Streamers
Once you get access to the new Clip creation flow, making a few vertical versions of your clips is a good idea. This ensures that Twitch will use the same crop for future clips automatically.
While Twitch’s unlikely to launch with more advanced features like subtitles, the clip editor is expected to improve over time. You may need to download the clips and use a third-party editing service to add subtitles, sound effects, or more advanced edits.
